I made a silver sake cup with a fox and an ear of rice.
The tail end of the fox resembles ears of rice, and has been a symbol of fertility. The fox was also thought of as a guardian deity to watch over farmers, as it appeared in villages from early spring, when farming began, to autumn, when the rice was harvested.
Since the god enshrined in Inari-san is also the god of agriculture, foxes are believed to be messengers of the gods.
People in the past used to find gods in nature and pray with their hands
together. I made this silver cup in the hope that the same spirit will flow through me as well.
This silver cup is made by forging the shape of the vessel and decorating the surface in relief using the hammered out technique.
